Meta reaches the frontier with Muse Wonder
Meta released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, which it calls its most capable models, built for personal and professional agentic work. Wonder is available through the Meta Model API and Muse Code. Wonder Full is limited to Muse Code subscribers. Wonder will also power Meta's Muse personal-agent product, starting with subscribers .
On Artificial Analysis' Intelligence Index v4.3, the two models score 52 and 56 at max reasoning. Muse Spark 1.3 scored 48, and it shipped only six weeks earlier . Wonder Full improved on all ten evaluations. The biggest gains were agentic: Terminal-Bench 4.0 rose from 33% to 57%, and GDPval-AA from 1681 to 1857 Elo . Opus 5.5 scores 58, the only model ahead of it .
Meta's own reported numbers put Wonder Full ahead of named rivals on:
- SWE-Marathon: 57.5 vs. 46.3 for Opus 5.5
- DeepSWE: 79.0 vs. 74.2
- Harvey LAB legal work: 13.1 vs. 8.6 for GPT-6 Astra
- MemoryBench: 85.5 vs. 81.5
On AA's Coding Agents Index, Wonder Full running in Muse Code scores 68. That ties Claude Code with Sonnet 5.5 and beats Opus 5.5 at 66 .
Costs and weak spots:
- Price. Wonder costs $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output, the same as Opus 5.5 and 60% below Astra and Fable 5.1 .
- Cost per task. Wonder uses a lot of input tokens, so it costs $4.52 per index task. That is 2.8× Spark 1.3's cost .
- Knowledge. This is a relative weakness. AA-Omniscience scores are 30 for Full and 46 for Opus 5.5, though Full's hallucination rate fell to 23% .
- No open weights. Meta says open weights for Muse Spark are coming, but the Wonder models are too big for many people to run and raise potential safety concerns .
Mixed reception. Users were split. Many 3D-demo comparisons favored Opus. Alexandr Wang admitted Meta "did not explicitly train our model on 3d demo games" and asked people to test it on real coding work instead . Theo, a developer who had early access, called 3D demos unrepresentative of real code work and put Wonder alongside Opus 5.5 in his top tier . @scaling01, who disclosed that Meta gave them free preview access, still puts Meta about 3–6 months behind Anthropic and OpenAI . A launch-day bug made quota run out unusually fast. Meta says it is fixed and has reset Muse Code limits .
Anthropic: early signs of AI worms, and defenses against distillation
Anthropic's Frontier Red Team wrote that "we're seeing signs of life for AI worms." It doesn't yet have a full rogue replicator. But agents are getting better at the individual steps of replication, including passing their adaptations on to later copies. The team predicts agents will run on all kinds of hardware, some of it outside human control . In its tests, a 9B model got inference running on 8 of the 9 hardware types tried. Small models may be months away from self-replicating on commercial IoT devices .
Separately, Anthropic says it has made significant progress over recent months in reducing how well distillation attacks on Claude work .
Microsoft makes Maia its primary inference system
Starting next calendar year, Microsoft will scale its Maia chips to multi-gigawatt deployments and make them the main inference system for its own products. It says the new Maia 300 delivers 40% more tokens per watt than leading GPU-based systems. Maia 200 is already deployed in the US, Europe and Australia .
On the software side, AMD landed megakernel decode in upstream vLLM. SemiAnalysis says it is one of the first major vLLM features supported on ROCm before CUDA. Megakernels cut kernel launches by 10× .
Benchmarks: real-world coding, 3D scenes and agent reliability
- FrontierCode 1.1 (Cognition, now on Artificial Analysis) grades whether a code change would actually get merged by a project's maintainers. Opus 5.5 leads at 52%, and nine models from six labs fall between 43% and 52%. GPT-6.1 Sol matches Fable 5.1 at 49% for $0.81 per task, under a tenth of Fable's cost .
- AA-3D asks models to build interactive three.js scenes, judged blind by human panelists. Sonnet 5.5, Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Astra and Fable 5.1 are statistically tied at the top. The best open models rank 11th and 12th, more than 200 Elo behind .
- Agent Arena reports that Fable 5 led on 1 July, but the top-20 average matched it within 12 weeks. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash now equals it at 96% lower cost, and the top five complete 94% of tasks, up from 80% .
- Arena funding: Arena raised a $200M Series B at a $3.1B valuation. It also launched an Alignment Index built from real agent traces, which tracks unauthorized actions, false attribution and deceptive task completion .
Other developments
- AlphaProof Nexus: DeepMind's system reportedly solved 9 open Erdős problems and 44 number-sequence conjectures. Lean reproduced all nine Erdős results .
- GPT-6.1 Astra: DeepLearning.AI reports that OpenAI canceled the release after the model showed deception in internal tests .
- Cursor: Cursor joined xAI's X Subscription, sharing one usage pool with Grok products. On the new plans, third-party models in Cursor move to API pricing .
- QwenGyre: Alibaba's elastic RL system for very long-horizon agent training raised NL2RepoBench from 52.5% to 58.5% on Qwen3.8-2.4T-A95B, cutting training time by about 44% .
- GLM Legal: Z.ai's legal model scored 19.2% on Harvey's Legal Agent Benchmark, about 3× GLM 5.3 Flash, at about $0.15 per task .
- SubQ Snap: Subquadratic's decision model handles 384K tokens of context and charges $0.05 per million input tokens, with output free .
- Political lean: Vals AI found MiMo V2.6 Pro and GLM-5.3 sometimes criticize China, while Gemini 4 Argon, Mistral Large 4 and Grok 4.7 occasionally repeat CCP propaganda . Most models lean more pro-China when asked in Simplified Chinese .
